WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY
With the continuing trend of cold temperatures, water customers are advised to take precautions to prevent their water pipes from freezing and bursting.
-Open cupboard doors under sinks.
-Temporarily keep a STEADY trickle of cold water at THE KITCHEN FAUCET.
-Cover foundation vents inside.
-If your meter is in a meter pit, insulate inside the pit and be sure there are no air gaps.
The longer it stays cold, the further the frost will penetrate into the ground and through walls.
If your pipes freeze, use an electric heater, hair dryer or heat tape to thaw. If lines are frozen, assume they may be broken and be prepared to turn water off while thawing pipes. Shut off valves are located near the water meter. As temperatures rise after long cold spells, cracked water lines may thaw causing leaks that may go unnoticed.
Should you have no water, but your neighbors do, assume your service is frozen or you have a leak. Please call HWA at 888-557-4343 if you require further assistance.
